Know what it meantbeforeasking what it means

What Expound is

Expound is a Bible study tool that gives you the background behind any passage.

The history.

The culture.

The original language.

The meaning is yours to find, from the Holy Spirit, through the words themselves.

Study tools that know their place

Five tools, one rule: the background, never the meaning.

A reader that stays out of the way

Scripture set in Literata, a typeface made for long reading. King James, English Standard, and Russian Synodal translations. Red letters, paragraph marks, and nothing else asking for your attention.

The ESV is free to read in Expound, and always will be.

KJV · ESV · Russian Synodal

Tap a verse. Its world opens

Who wrote it, to whom, where, and what was happening at the time. Authorship, dates, geography, and culture, written for a general reader and drawn from scholarship.

What Expound will never do is tell you what a passage means for your life. That is not a missing feature. It is the point.

Press a word. Trace it to the source

Every word in the text carries its original Greek or Hebrew behind it. Strong's numbers, the transliteration, and what the word held for its first readers.

Context, not meaning

The mark is three pillars, ascending. The smallest is the question, where study begins. The middle is context, the scholar's work. The tallest is the Word, where the ascent ends. The Spirit is not drawn at all. That space is left open on purpose.

We show context, not meaning. Background, not application. The interpretation is yours through the Holy Spirit.

Fair questions, plain answers

A Bible study companion for iPhone. It puts the history, culture, and original language of any passage one tap away. It is a context engine, not a devotional. It has no reading streaks, no badges, and no ads.

Because that is not the scholar's job. Expound holds one conviction: context is the scholar's work, and meaning is the Spirit's. Every card gives you background, never application. The space that remains is yours.

The King James Version, which is in the public domain. The English Standard Version, used by permission of Crossway; the ESV is free to read in Expound and always will be. And the Russian Synodal translation.

Context is written by Claude, an AI service from Anthropic. To write a card, Expound sends the verse reference and text, the word you pressed, or the question you typed. A constraint enforced on our servers keeps every response to facts: authorship, dates, geography, culture, and language. No response can tell you what to believe, and no setting can turn that off.

Your highlights, notes, and reading history stay on your device and are never sent to anyone. Your account is an email address, a display name, and a password. There are no ads and no data brokers. If you report a card, the report is stored on our servers so a person can read it. The details live in the privacy policy.

Unlimited context cards, unlimited Search, and full word study depth. Reading, highlighting, and note taking are complete in the free app, and every new account starts with 30 days of everything.
