Expound ("we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information when you use the Expound mobile application (the "App").
Information We Collect
Account Information. When you create an account, we collect your email address and a password. This information is used solely for authentication and account management.
Verse Reference Data. When you request context for a Bible verse, we send the verse reference (e.g., "John 3:16") to our server to generate scholarly context. We do not send your personal notes, highlights, or any other user-generated content.
Purchase Data. If you subscribe to Expound Pro, your purchase is processed by Apple through the App Store. We use RevenueCat to manage subscription entitlements. We receive confirmation of your subscription status but do not have access to your payment details (credit card number, billing address, etc.).
Information Stored on Your Device
The following data is stored locally on your device and is never transmitted to our servers:
- Highlights and annotations
- Reading history and bookmarks
- Theme and font preferences
- Cached context data
Information We Do Not Collect
- We do not use analytics or tracking tools
- We do not collect device identifiers or location data
- We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties
- We do not serve advertisements
Third-Party Services
Expound uses the following third-party services:
- Supabase — Authentication and secure server-side functions. Your email and hashed password are stored securely by Supabase. Supabase Privacy Policy

Data Retention
We retain your account information for as long as your account is active. You may delete your account at any time from within the App (Profile > Delete Account). When you delete your account:
- Your authentication record is permanently deleted from our servers
- All locally stored data (highlights, history, preferences) is cleared from your device
- This action is irreversible
Active subscriptions must be canceled separately through the App Store.
Children's Privacy
Expound does not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will promptly delete it.
Security
We use industry-standard security measures to protect your data, including encrypted connections (HTTPS) for all data transmission and secure authentication through Supabase.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
