These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the Expound mobile application (the "App") operated by Expound ("we," "our," or "us"). By downloading, installing, or using the App, you agree to these Terms.
1. Use of the App
Expound is a Bible study application that provides historical, cultural, and linguistic context for Scripture. You may use the App for personal, non-commercial study purposes. You agree not to:
- Use the App for any unlawful purpose
- Attempt to reverse-engineer, decompile, or extract source code from the App
- Interfere with or disrupt the App's servers or infrastructure
- Redistribute or republish content from the App without permission
2. Accounts
You may create an account using your email address. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials and for all activities under your account. You may delete your account at any time from within the App.
3. Subscriptions and Payments
Free Tier. The App offers a free tier with limited features, including 5 context cards per day, up to 20 highlights, and basic word study.
Expound Pro. A paid subscription ("Pro") unlocks unlimited context cards, unlimited highlights, and full-depth word study. Pro is available as a monthly or annual subscription.
Billing. All subscriptions are processed and billed through the Apple App Store. By subscribing, you agree to Apple's terms for in-app purchases.
Auto-Renewal. Subscriptions automatically renew at the end of each billing period unless canceled at least 24 hours before the renewal date. You can manage or cancel your subscription through your Apple ID account settings.
Free Trial. If offered, a free trial converts to a paid subscription at the end of the trial period unless canceled beforehand. You will not be charged during the trial period.
Refunds. Refund requests must be directed to Apple, as all payments are processed through the App Store.
4. Content and Intellectual Property
Bible Text. Expound uses the King James Version (KJV) of the Bible, which is in the public domain.
Cross-References. Cross-reference data is sourced from the Treasury of Scripture Knowledge (TSK), which is in the public domain.
AI-Generated Context. Contextual information generated by the App is produced by artificial intelligence. While we strive for accuracy, this content is provided for educational purposes and should not be considered a substitute for professional biblical scholarship or pastoral counsel.
User Content. Your highlights, notes, and annotations belong to you. We do not claim ownership of any content you create within the App.
5. Content Disclaimer
Expound provides scholarly context — not personal interpretation, devotional content, or denominational guidance. The App is designed to present factual historical, cultural, and linguistic background. We do not guarantee the accuracy or completeness of AI-generated content. You are encouraged to verify information through additional study resources.
Expound holds to the historical, conservative Christian faith, including a firm belief in the authority and inerrancy of Scripture. Because the contextual and scholarly resources provided represent a range of evangelical traditions, all ideas and principles conveyed are not necessarily affirmed, in total, by this ministry.
6. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Expound and its operators shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising out of or related to your use of the App. The App is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, either express or implied.
7. Termination
We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your access to the App at our discretion if you violate these Terms. You may stop using the App and delete your account at any time.
8. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
9. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the United States. Any disputes shall be resolved in the courts of competent jurisdiction.
